Sewing Up the Modern Scar

"I came here to witness sorcery"
-Evan, 4/12/2014

It recently occurred to me that I am rarely critical of GM shows. I wouldn't dispute the argument that I am a bit of a GM fluffer. That being said, the band's debut at Stella Blues was relatively flawless.  I'm keeping tonight's "Burn" video in my back pocket until years end, but check out some other highlights below.

Those were my best "Burn" lights ever.
-Cruess, 3/29/2014

What the world needs now is another rock band like I need a hole in my head. These guys are definitely an exception to the rule. Links below for some ferocious playing in "Burn", "Baba" and "Everything's Fine".

Ghosts of California

#playthefuckingintro
-BC, 3/22/2014

Saturday night brought GM back to home turf for more of the the family style jams we've grown to know and love. Playing for a packed house of friends and loved ones, the band treated the crowd to some top notch playing in my personal faves "Everything's Fine" and "Althea"(vids below).  The main event included the highly anticipated debut of CAPRICORN, the Allman Brothers tribute consisting of all GM and Almost Ancient members. Video highlights from that set are forthcoming.
Can't say enough how much I appreciate sharing experiences like these with close friends and fam; I hope I'm not alone there. My immense gratitude for helping create memories better than sunshine, better than moonshine, and damn sure better than rain.

Nog Changes

Playing the first of three consecutive Saturday shows this month, last night brought GM to Parkside Lounge in NYC, the self proclaimed "champagne of dive bars". Playing an abbreviated set and using house gear doesn't always make for the smoothest experience, but we're just fine with imperfections around here. I'm off to BRYAC tonight to check out Uncle Sonny and Duck Helmet and next week takes us back home to Waterbury for the Allman Bros. tribute show. See you there.

A Bridge Too Far

A few more videos from Saturday night:

Newly announced: Almost Ancient and Guy Malone in the SAME band? This is my thesis, man! This is my closing argument!

I Wasn't Leaving Anyway

"Here's our pop song"
-Intro to "Little Bit of Soul", 1/25/2014

The first show of 2014 offered a whole bunch of new twists on old favorites.  The amps-to-11 sound was temporarily shelved Saturday night for some spacey and soulful play (evident in "Bloodshot & Blue", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"-videos below), but you won't hear any complaints from me. This band could fart on a snare drum all night and I'd be there to archive it.

Everything's Fine: A Retrospective

Friends,
Leftover pictures and videos from this year are presented below for your enjoyment. Two years ago I took upon myself the hobby of helping everyone piece together the nights we don't always remember so well.  Many may disagree, but I hold steadfast to the idea that the majority of these moments should not be left "in the ether", but rather should be remembered and relived at any moments notice.
As always, I send much, much appreciation to the bands and folks always along for the ride. My best wishes for a happy and healthy 2014!
