"Here we are again"
- "Water on Mars"

"Turn it over! Yeah!"
-Hot Coco 5k Runner, 11/21/15

The Hot Coco 5k is always one of my favorite shows of the year. It signifies the kick-off of the holiday season, it offers most of us the rare opportunity to see the band while we are sober, and it has slowly evolved into quite the fun family affair.  Here's hoping this great tradition carries on!

We Will Never Go Away

"Open your eyes and see all the things you've become"
-"Cut Off Your Hands", 11/19/15

You've got to hand it to Guy Malone. There's not a ton of local bands that have been playing for almost two decades while constantly keeping material fresh. There's not many bands that can play in front of a dozen people and perform as though it was a packed arena. There's almost no bands that can  consistently produce new original content at the rate these guys have (yea, they debuted 5 songs last night). There's no hits or cover tunes to rely on. These guys just tap the fucking vein and let it rip!  When the Connecticut Bar Band Hall of Fame is created, these guys are easily on the first ballot.
The new tunes hit every point on the spectrum of awesomeness, including psychedelia ("Water on Mars"), shuffling blues dance numbers ("Cut off Your Hands"), dusted off favorites from old demos ("I Redeemer"), and straight up dark & dirty ("Down").
Guy Malone is certainly not for everyone, there's no doubting that. But that's kind of the way we like it. GM is a band for people that enjoy original, raw, unapologetic, creative, and rowdy music. If they're too loud, you're too fucking old.

B.L.O. Me

"This place really used to be something before electricity"
-Dave, 9/18/2015

After a 10 year absence, Nick Biello returned for a one night stand with his old GM cohorts in the East End. The quartet dusted off a few oldies with little rehearsal, played a setlist with rarities abound, and the crowd was treated to one of the more entertaining set break performances in recent years. I was enjoying myself too much to experience this show while staring at a camera, but I was able to grab video of a scorching, 15-minute "Geppetto's Lament". Strap in and enjoy!

A Vacation Close to Home

"We haven't played here in 10 years. Let's party."
- BC, 4/17/2015

Unofficially, the last time GM played was 12 years ago (almost to the date). Just found this beauty in the arguyves:

I remember Bill being cool enough to get me in Sully's at the time, as I was a wee candyass 19 year old. I wasn't nearly hip enough to appreciate this B.L.O>Alibi (titled "Bunk" on CD)>Post>B.L.O.  I'll throw this show on archive.org if there's enough demand (i.e. if one person asks me).
In their return to Sully's last Friday night, the band brought the heat (and Mercier) for a cover heavy show. Setlist and videos below.
